H.E.A.T. Walkthrough Protocol

Achieving academic success on statewide achievement tests cannot be accomplished with a single solution, but requires a series of complementary strategies, frameworks, and resources aimed at improving student achievement. Classroom Walkthroughs with H.E.A.T. monitor these processes as part of a unified school improvement model that delivers significant results.

Though walkthroughs are more informal classroom visitations, it is essential that campus leaders focus on similar look-fors to ensure a high level of reliability among administrators. In the Classroom Walkthrough with H.E.A.T. protocol, this focus includes a thorough inspection of the H.E.A.T. “Look-fors”, a review of prior H.E.A.T. Walkthrough reports, and thoughtful consideration of current curriculum initiatives on campus.

Many schools following the LoTi School Improvement model implement the H.E.A.T. Observation Walkthrough using the LoTi Observer or Eduphoria's Appraise tool for the handheld. Both systems:

  • are easy-to-use for completing 21st Century classroom walkthroughs.
  • promote continuous improvement of instructional practices.
  • upload walkthrough data online to edit/review/print reports.
  • provide a powerful mechanism for mobile data collection and analysis of research-best practice behaviors.
  • offer an effective solution for gauging levels of teaching innovation on campus.
